Best Opportunities

Do people realize the American Dream is not an equal opportunity program?

I hear a lot of people cheerleading CEOs and rich entrepreneurs as examples of the American Dream.

Do they realize that they're still making $24,000 at what little crummy job they're working at? Do they realize they probably have no chance of becoming like those wealthy people? Do they realize those wealthy people are actually hurting the economy, more than helping it?

This nation needs to change the way it views itself. This is not a land of opportunity. There is no "dream." There is a nation, one that must be run like any other. The "American Dream" is why we are being exploited, it's an excuse.

"Rushonomics" will not help. Fearing socialism is going to worsen things. When your own powerful business leaders are first in line to get the government handouts they criticized common people for taking, it's time for people to realize they've been conned by liars. You don't like to be conned by street hustlers, why be stupid and get conned by a corporate executive?

I sincerely hope most of you posters don't represent America. I have never encountered this level of self-hate or ignorance in any other country in the world.

Do you realize that in America you have opportunities and you are not entitled to make millions of dollars?

Yes, and what are we supposed to be doing about this. Everybody voted for Obama and he's worse than Bush. Now what options do we have, we have no control with our puny 24,000 salary. We have no say with Dems running the show. Rushonomics will work you just need to stop giving money away because people need it. Give money to those who want to earn it. No more entitlements needed.

The only self-hatred here is coming from you. You DO have the opportunity to become just as rich as those you apparently despise. We don't want those people getting bailouts - that's why Republicans have been voting AGAINST them. What you need is a healthy dose of ambition. Stop blaming others for your lack of achievements.

The Keyword is OPPORTUNITY, not entitlement.

I paid my own way through college, worked several jobs along with 15 years in the Navy… a LESS than $30K a year job for the first 10 years. I've raised my daughters and sent THEM to school.

And YES, I'm now the CEO of my own little company… we pull in about $500K a year in profit.

    WHAT is YOUR proposal ??

Barracuda, It is you that has it wrong. Are you saying that only rich people are happy? Happiness comes from your family, friends, the good feeling you get when you do the right thing, and making a living at something you love and are good at. That doesn't necessarily mean that you will be rich. Many of us would rather work for ourselves…never expecting to become rich, but proud of what we produce. It sounds like you are jealous of people who produce…you then are selfish.

I will not place blame or ridicule someone who happened to become wealthy from working hard. It is businesses, small and large that provide jobs. If we take that away, we will all be dependent on the government. That dependence will be bleak when the businesses that provide most of our tax dollars go under for paying some steap price for success. Without that money there would be nothing to bestow to the selfish.
